By purchasing this gift, you’re supporting Dalit women in Perungudi, Tamil Nadu, a neighbourhood with very little infrastructure. Homes here are without latrines and while some are allowed to use common health campuses, this is forbidden for Dalit women. They must await darkness to take their calls of nature in the forest. This situation causes multitudes of health problems, dangerous insect bites, and the potential of physical or sexual abuse. Our partner the Women’s Development Resource Centre is part of a national sanitation programme (Switcha Bharath) constructing Open Defecation Free (ODF) villages.
